Getting Help
CWCMH's recovery-oriented system of care encourages individuals impacted by mental illnesses and/or addictive disorders to actively manage their disorders, and their residual effects, in the process of reclaiming full, meaningful lives in the community while striving to achieve their full potential. CWCMH services promote and encourage recovery through personal choice and promoting increasing levels of community integration by building connections with community resources, family and community support, educational services, vocational training, supported and competitive employment, and community service opportunities.
The CWCMH definition of recovery goes beyond simply reducing symptoms. Emphasis is on the strengths and resilience each individual brings to their efforts to meet their personal treatment goals and have a safe, dignified, and gratifying life. Mental health recovery is a journey that requires the building of "recovery capital" in one's life to increase the total amount of internal and external resources that an individual, family or community can bring to bear on the initiation and maintenance of recovery.
